The Morphological Study of the Anterior Choroidal Artery

Abstract

|
|
The topographical anatomy of the anterior choroidal artery was studied in 84 Korean adult brains( 168 hemispheres). The majority (96.4 %) arouse from the internal carotid artery distal to the origin of the posterior communicating artery. The diameter was average 0.9 mm and the difference between the right and left side was not found. The number of the perforating branches was reciprocal relation to the number of perforating branches of the posterior communicating artery. The anterior choroidal artery originated from lateral to the optic tractusually passed backward medialward acrossed the optic tract, and then coursed toward the choroid fissure. The anastomoses of this artery were discussed.
